(Warning Against Threats Corrupting Habits)
Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits. 1 Corinthians 15:33

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

As Christians, our goal is to glorify God in everything we say and do and to be an example to those around us. Scripture also urges us to be watchful, to be on our guard, because the devil seeks to steal and kill and destroy our lives (John 10:10). Satan himself is even able to masquerade as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). As the body of Christ, we are to encourage one another to live godly and upright lives and to help each other avoid traps set by the enemy. Our school policies are designed to serve as a guide to students and their parents for these very purposes.

Over the last few years, there have been some  negative influences that have appeared in the school that warranted communication with parents, particularly related to certain cartoon characters on movies and video games. Due to parents responding so positively to this information, we decided to create this page to continue updating parents regarding harmful influences that they may be unaware of.
We are not here to “police” the homes of our students or dictate what they do, watch, or listen to. However, when things impact the school environment, we will take the necessary steps to communicate with parents to ensure a safe and healthy environment. We invite parents to be “watchmen” at home in helping protect their children!

3 Steps in Being an Effective “Watchmen” at home:

1. Inform yourself. Find out about the game, the cartoon, or the paraphernalia related to the subject in question. Research the background of the creator, understand what the names mean, and read other people’s experiences.

2. Be discerning. Ask questions. A few starter questions are —

  • What does this game/movie/music teach you? What is the message being communicated? Look for both obvious and subtle, underlying messages.
  • Are supernatural powers involved? What is the source of that power?
  • Does the show, character, story, etc. go against or line up with God’s Word?
  • Does the game or toy have symbols, characters, or other characteristics that link it to New Age or occult powers?
  • What influence does the game/movie/music exert? How does your child act, behave, respond, change when involved with the game (show, character, etc.)?  How do you or your child feel?

3. Pray. Ask God to give you His mind on the matter and to lead you. The Holy Spirit leads us into truth. Will we follow His leading?

Below is a list of harmful influences and links to some additional information about them.
